Advanced orthopaedic forging processes delivering controlled grain flow and optimized mechanical performance for critical implants.
Forging is a core competence of SMB Medical and a key differentiator within the orthopaedic manufacturing value chain. Our forging operations are specifically developed for medical applications, where mechanical performance, reliability and consistency are critical.
Through controlled thermo-mechanical processing, grain flow orientation and microstructure are precisely managed to enhance strength, fatigue resistance and durability. Near-net-shape forging reduces material waste and downstream machining while improving structural performance.
A range of heat treatments, including solution annealing, recrystallization, aging and stress relieving, is applied to stabilize microstructures and ensure dimensional consistency. This metallurgical approach results in components with superior mechanical properties and long-term reliability, supporting both high-volume production and complex geometries required for modern orthopaedic implants.
For applications where forging is not optimal due to geometry or volume requirements, investment casting solutions are available within the Marle Group. Casting enables complex shapes while remaining fully integrated with downstream machining, finishing and quality processes, ensuring consistency, traceability and industrial scalability.
